Korea Institute of Construction Technology Education (President Min-Woo Park) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (Chairman Hyuk-sang Son), an organization in charge of grant aid, conducted online training Capacity Development for Women Construction Engineers in Africa for 10 days from August 30th to September 8th.
This training is the last course of the 'Capacity Building for female construction engineers in Africa' program conducted by the Education Institute since 2019, and the participants were 15 female construction engineers belonging to the Ministry of Works and Housing in Ghana, Africa.
As movement between countries is restricted due to COVID-19, KICTE and KOICA have been conducting online training since last year.
In this training, Korea's human resource development, science and technology policies, and the system for nurturing female scientists and engineers were introduced through lectures, and ways to improve them were derived in the field of nurturing female construction workers in Africa. In addition, participants had an opportunity to hear about the current status and support cases of the policy project to foster female scientists and engineers from Ji-hye Kwon, the head of the International Cooperation Center and the working group of WISET in Korea.
The participants shared the current status through data on the training and statistics of female construction engineers in Ghana, and announced plans and activities for the establishment of the Women Builders Association under the Ministry of Worksn and Housing.
Josephine Essie Kpesese, Principal Assistant Registrar, who participated in this training, said, “Through this online training, I was able to experience Korea's female construction engineers training system and excellent construction technology. We hope to be able to cooperate with you continually.”
